Valladolid City Council promotes LIFE HABITAT, which combines the health of cities with the built environment
Inauguration of the Life Habitat Congress organised by Aeice

The inauguration of the LIFE HÁBITAT Congress, International Congress on Engineering, Architecture, Health and Wellbeing, held on June 18th and 19th at the Faculty of Medicine of Valladolid, was led by Julio Grijalba, Vice-Rector for Infrastructures, Heritage and Sustainability; José Ignacio Zarandona, Councillor for Urban Planning and Housing of Valladolid City Council; Estíbaliz González, President of AEICE Efficient Habitat Cluster; and Juan Carlos Suarez-Quiñones Fernández, Minister of Environment, Housing and Territorial Planning of the Regional Government of Castilla y León.

In this 5th edition, hosted by AEICE, Efficient Habitat Cluster, Valladolid City Council is one of the main sponsors as the construction and buildings sector is key to the sustainable economic development of Valladolid and to achieve a carbon-free city.

Valladolid is Health

In fact, under the slogan 'Valladolid es salud' ('Valladolid is health'), LIFE HABITAT has integrated into its programme the Valladolid Mission, which aims for a zero emissions city in 2030, as the objectives of the congress and those of the European Mission are the same and place value on health, wellbeing and sustainability in the built environment.

The Valladolid Climate Mission Label, awarded by the European Commission in October 2023, was present in the event's promotion. In addition, AEICE in its role as ambassador of the Mission, having joined the Climate Agreement, has encouraged all its partners to join this key alliance -which already has more than 82 entities and companies, in a sector that is essential to reduce the city's carbon footprint. It should be kept in mind that this sector accounts for 22% of CO2 emissions in Valladolid.

The congress promoted the visibility of the Valladolid Mission with merchandising, and the screening of the corporate video that integrates the decarbonisation objectives of the city and the adhesion of Valladolid City Council to the technical committee "City and Health of Conama" co-coordinated by AEICE to deepen and disseminate the values of this ambitious city project.

Strategic and Multidisciplinary Meeting

The meeting was once again presented as a multidisciplinary space, aimed at helping companies and organisations in the building sector to improve their strategies and positioning with a focus on health in the built environment.

The conference addressed how to think about the design of spaces according to science, how this idea has been implemented in some leading cities, and what are the trends and success stories. In addition, tools to promote collaboration between key sectors were discussed with the aim of promoting initiatives aimed at improving people's quality of life.
