Erasmus+ Programme Participants on the Innovation Route

The Valladolid City Council has welcomed today a group of students from schools in Italy and the Netherlands who are taking part in the Erasmus+ project 'Opening our minds, better people', managed by the school Colegio Jesús y María in Valladolid.

The visit included a guided tour of the City Hall, which began with a brief presentation by staff from the City Council's Agency for Innovation and Economic Development (IdeVa) who explained to the students what the Valladolid Mission, Smart and Climate Neutral City 2030 consists of and to introduce them to the concepts of mitigation and adaptation to climate change.

The day was rounded off with a 'Walk for Innovation', which covered significant points related to innovative initiatives and projects that seek to generate a more sustainable, healthy and carbon-free urban environment.

The mobile vertical gardens in Santiago Street, the green shade and lighting awnings in Santa María Street and the green roof in Plaza España are some of the infrastructures and installations that have been carried out thanks to the European URBAN GreenUP project.

Sustainable mobility

The route also addressed sustainable mobility with the parking points of the city’s BIKI bike-sharing system, as well as a secure bike park Parkibici, a recharging point in the city centre and the electric bus system for public transport managed by AUVASA. The visit ended in front of the Valladolid plant letters in Plaza de Zorrilla, an already emblematic meeting place in the city for tourists and visitors.

This group of European students joins others from the Czech Republic and Finland that the Agency for Innovation and Economic Development of the Valladolid City Council has welcomed, in collaboration with the school Colegio Jesús y María. The school has received a new recognition from the European Union and receives funding to organise mobility, training and educational innovation activities with other schools in Europe.

The 'Innovation Walks' have also contributed to the European Mobility Week, which is held annually in September, as well as dramatised routes organised within the Action Plan of the European project PE4Trans, within the framework of the SmartVa! Plan, to promote culture and innovation spaces, in which more than 500 people have participated, including citizens from the city's senior citizens' centres and students from different educational centres.

The Innovation and Economic Development Agency of Valladolid City Council manages European programmes and collaborates with the exchange of experiences related to the internationalisation of the city and the attraction and retainment of talent.
