The Councillor for the Environment and President of the Board of Directors of Aquavall (the municipal company responsible for the management of Valladolid's integral water cycle), Alejandro García Pellitero, presented today the programme of educational and informative activities aimed at raising public awareness of the need to use water responsibly, in commemoration of World Water Day (22 March).

Water is one of the strategic sectors to achieve the decarbonisation included in the Valladolid Climate Agreement, which marks the roadmap of the European Commission's '100 Smart and Climate Neutral Cities Mission' Plan and for which Valladolid was one of the first 10 cities to achieve the 'Mission Label'.
In celebration of World Water Day, Aquavall emphasised innovation and awareness-raising as key tools for moving towards a more efficient and responsible consumption under the slogan 'Aquavall, the value of the essential'.

Circular economy example

In Valladolid, water is one of the sectors where the circular economy is most present, starting with the collection of water for consumption in homes and industries for its subsequent collection in the sewage and purification network to return it in optimal conditions to nature.

And within the commitments included in the Action Plan of the Climate Agreement, there is a pledge for the digitalisation of the network and a reinforcement of investments to achieve maximum use of waste both for the generation of energy and secondary materials.

‘Evolution and sustainability trends and responsible communication'

Within the field of dissemination and innovation, Valladolid will host on March 21st the conference 'Evolution and sustainability trends and responsible communication', which will bring together experts at the Agency for Innovation and Economic Development of Valladolid to gain insight into the points of view of professionals in Social Responsibility and Sustainability on the changes that have occurred in recent years, such as the transition from voluntary to regulation based on European guidelines; the application of new technologies (Big Data, AI...) to promote ESG standards in organisations and decarbonisation plans, as well as the search for the best communication formulas to impact on stakeholders, taking into account the generational aspect and what it means to decarbonise. ..) to promote ESG standards in organisations and decarbonisation plans, as well as the search for the best communication formulas to impact on stakeholders taking into account the generational aspect and what it means to join the project 'Mission 100 Smart and Climate Neutral Cities for 2030'.

Science Museum

Aquavall has always counted on the collaboration of the Science Museum of Valladolid in its educational work and in its efforts to promote the value of the river ecosystem so that all citizens, and especially the younger ones, can get to know and value the riverbanks, so close and yet so unknown. As a result of this collaboration, on March 22nd a new diorama will be presented at the Casa del Río, which recreates these ecosystems with autochthonous elements.

In addition to this, there will be a screening of the documentary 'El bosque salvaje de Pardomino', on March 21st at 19:00, a feature film by Bicho Producciones that reveals the details of the intimate life of the forest's inhabitants, including bears, wolves, wild boars and chamois, filmed with state-of-the-art photo-trapping cameras in León.

Furthermore, on March 22nd at 19:00, the Museum will host the event 'Music painted in water', an original proposal that will combine musical performances and live watercolour painting.

The activity will feature the participation of the flautist and composer Katrina Penman (England); the guitarist, composer and conservatory teacher María Elena de Prada (Cuba); the percussionist Yónder Rodríguez (Venezuela); and the jazz and classical pianist Jesús Bravo (Spain). These artists will offer their own compositions and versions that will include themes related to water.

For his part, the Valladolid painter Pablo Giménez will create different paintings inspired by the performed music. This process will be projected on a screen, located on the stage, for its proper visualisation.
