"Gamification" is changing the way of learning, helping to think differently and stimulating the mind of people of any age or with some type of learning difficulty. Based on empirical studies, serious games have shown their effectiveness in changing user behavior models.
Under this approach, INLIFE aims to facilitate the integration of information from the real world in the world of serious games and validate the impact of this method for educational purposes.
Gamification Platform
Valladolid has been the pilot city in which the two games of the project have been validated: ICEBERG (educational game) and AKSION (social inclusion game for children with autism).
In the gamification platform that has been developed, users gained ground in the game by completing a series of specific tasks in real life, for example turning off the lights when leaving the room or cooperating with other people in simple actions. The system was carried out through an infrastructure of sensors connected thanks to the Internet of Things (IoT).
Iceberg
ICEBERG has been developed in the "Adolfo Miaja de la Muela" Municipal Library, in the Pajarillos neighborhood of our city. Both library users and visitors and the municipal employees themselves have participated in this game, which has rewarded the most environmentally sustainable behavior in the building itself. Walking up the stairs instead of taking the elevator, turning off the lights when leaving a room, making good use of windows or blinds, selecting the right room temperature, using recycling bins, etc. They have been some of the habits that have been rewarded.
The sensors installed in the library were connected to an app that the participants downloaded so that this type of sustainable behavior could be recorded. The other game in the project, intended for people with autism, was initially tested in Greece and Valladolid has been able to replicate it in Spain.
