The CENCYL + project has reinforced cross-border cooperation between Spain and Portugal in a specific axis of the Atlantic Corridor. Made up of different cities and ports from both countries, this axis forms the basis of the Cencyl Cities Network, which seeks alliances and exchange of experiences for sustainable development in different areas: transport, logistics, heritage, tourism, culture, youth entrepreneurship and learning forums. It is an Interreg project.
Two studies on urban and interurban mobility and the development of an application that will optimize the management of the delivery fleet in the loading and unloading areas of the city are the most outstanding actions carried out by Valladolid.
Sustainable development with FEDER funds
The Cencyl Green Cities Network addresses sustainable development projects in different areas, based on the European Regional Development Funds (ERDF). In a previous project, Cencyl, cooperation focused on logistics and intelligent transport to improve communication channels between the two countries and with Europe; At CENCYL+, the momentum of this Atlantic Corridor has opened up to other areas.
Valladolid has worked together with the cities of Salamanca, which leads and coordinates the project, Ciudad Rodrigo, Viseu, Figueira da Foz, Aveiro, Coimbra and Guarda, the ports of Aveiro, Figueira da Foz, Leixoes and Viana do Castelo, as well as with CYLOG, Logistics Center of Castilla y León.
Comprehensive vision of cooperation
The different actions that have been carried out have been organized into four work groups and areas: Logistics and transport, Urban Valuation, Heritage and Tourism, Communication and dissemination.
And different fields of action:
Development and coordination of cross-border strategic plans: ensuring that international freight transport (road and rail) in the Atlantic Corridor generates activity and employment at the local level.
Identification of new tourist products, their promotion and internationalization through joint marketing actions for the joint development of the cross-border space.
Focus on problems of common interest such as sustainable urban development and the effect of climate change on cities.
Promotion of entrepreneurial culture: alleviate youth unemployment by improving the social and labor inclusion of young people by promoting entrepreneurship and educational exchange.
Crafts and latest technologies
One of the most outstanding projects has been generated around the fusion of crafts and new technologies with CRAFTINNOVA, which was launched in October 2019 in Valladolid, the First International Trades and Innovation Meeting, a crossroads between crafts, creation and use of digital tools. This meeting, promoted by the Valladolid City Council, has been organized with the collaboration of Foacal and Cearcal and is held annually with municipal funding.
