Adapting to climate change
Adapt Climate Cencyl project marks a significant milestone in the fight against the consequences of climate change in the cities of the CENCYL Cities Network within the framework of the INTERREG-POCTEP programme. It represents the fourth Urban Adaptation to Climate Change initiative which has become a priority for the Network since 2017.
CENCYL Network cities
The cities of the CENCYL Network have proactively tackled the complex task of designing projects that will not only reduce climate risks and vulnerabilities in their environments, but also strengthen urban resilience factors. Therefore, the project has as its main objective the creation of climate adaptation solutions in CENCYL cities, focusing on the functional areas with the highest vulnerability. These solutions will be designed considering the physical, environmental and socio-economic characteristics of each territory.
The project is aligned with the priorities and strategic areas of the Valladolid Climate Agreement, within the 100 Smart and Climate Neutral Cities Mission of which Valladolid is part. It has a budget of 196,218 euros, which will be managed by Valladolid City Council through the Agency for Innovation and Economic Development (Ideva), with 75% financed by ERDF funds (European Regional Development Funds).
This pioneering local initiative demonstrates how networking and sharing adaptation experiences are innovative processes to improve climate resilience. To achieve this, solutions will be developed and validated with innovative technologies such as measuring the increase of natural capital, air quality and its impact on health. In addition, solutions based on nature and the efficient and sustainable use of resources such as water and energy, essential in the economic and digital green transition, will also be pursued.
Valladolid, one of the beneficiaries
