This is an innovative and pioneering municipal initiative to advance the decarbonisation of Valladolid’s economy and the local business fabric.
Helping to reduce the carbon footprint is the objective of this line of aids, which will receive applications from SMEs in the city through expressions of interest ‘Misión Valladolid: Decarbonisation Plans. The deadline for applying is from 17 to 27th September, both inclusive.
Valladolid City Council has launched an innovative decarbonisation plans call for companies in the city, with a budget of 100,000 euros, financed through the European Interreg project ADAPT CLIMA CENCYL, in which Valladolid participates with other cities of the CENCYL network.
The proposal was presented today at the Town Hall by the Councillor for the Environment, Alejandro García Pellitero, and the manager of the Valladolid Innovation and Development Agency (IdeVa), Fernando Rubio, aimed at companies in the city that are interested in reducing their carbon emissions. They will be able to participate in the expressions of interest call ‘Misión Valladolid: Plans for Decarbonisation’, which will be launched by the Valladolid City Council.
This is an innovative and pioneering municipal initiative to advance the decarbonisation of Valladolid’s economy and the local business fabric, in line with the 'Climate Mission' that seeks an emission-free Valladolid by 2030.
The call is open to any business entity interested in taking a step forward in this area, and is also aimed at companies committed to the sustainability, efficiency and energy transition of their economic and productive activity.
The Valladolid City Council, as a member of the CENCYL network of cities and through the ADAPT CLIMA CENCYL project, will assume the financial investment, with an estimated budget of 100,000 euros, to develop these decarbonisation plans that seek mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
Comprehensive and free support
SMEs will have the opportunity to plan their path towards zero emissions with the comprehensive support and free accompaniment of a specialised consultancy. The plans will be drawn up this year and throughout 2025. All this with the aim of improving business competitiveness and seeking an impact on the neutrality objectives to move towards an emissions-free city. 12 companies will be supported.
Analysis of companies
In the preparation of decarbonisation plans, facilities, production processes and resources of business activity will be analysed to evaluate and to propose improvements contributing to climate action in the management of water and energy, waste, thermal comfort or mobility of workers and goods, among other areas.
Carbon footprint
One of the essential starting points of the plans is to measure the carbon footprint of each company, so that entities can report it in the 'Registry of footprint, compensation and CO2 absorption projects'. This is a registry enabled by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge to measure the efforts of Spanish organisations in their action for the climate and emission reduction.
Applications
The deadline to apply for the plans opens on September 17 and will remain open until the 27h, both inclusive. Once the call has been published on the Electronic Office of the City Council, interested parties must express their interest in participating through a form providing relevant information about their company’s profile. The selection criteria will be determined by the entry order into the registry of entities that meet the requirements.
Companies adhering to the Climate Mission will have preference, and any of the applicants who have not yet done so may join before the end of the application submission period.
Sector responsible for 33% of emissions
The companies that execute the decarbonisation plans, in turn, will be benchmarks in sustainability in the productive sector, whose carbon footprint amounts to 33% in Valladolid. They will be able to share their best practices with the local, regional and other Spanish-Portuguese cities of the CENCYL city network. In addition, they will contribute their achievements to the Valladolid Climate Agreement, which defines the productive sector as a key source of polluting emissions.
Next steps towards sustainability
On its path towards decarbonisation, the Valladolid City Council will continue these actions with a new call for grants for decarbonisation projects in 2025, allocating 185,000 euros for this purpose. The experience gained in the previous call (2023/2024) as well as in projects such as ADAPT CLIMA CENCYL, reinforce and consolidate the launch of this new call.
