The City Council has approved the agreement of a new European project of the cross-border collaboration programme between Spain and Portugal: Interreg POCTEP Programme.
The project is aligned with the priorities and strategic areas of the Valladolid Climate Agreement, within the '100 Smart and Climate Neutral Cities Mission', in which the city is participating, and will have a budget of €196,218, which will be managed by Valladolid City Council through the Agency for Innovation and Economic Development (IdeVa), 75% financed by ERDF funds (European Regional Development Funds).
Integral solutions
Circular Ecosystems, “Territorial ecosystems and systemic solutions of the circular economy to prevent pollution,” is a joint effort of the regions of Galicia, Castilla y León and the north of Portugal to promote Circular Economy. It will be carried out until the end of 2026 within the Interreg VA Spain-Portugal (POCTEP) programme with the aim of implementing actions that favour waste management and the reduction of pollution to minimise environmental impacts, based on the principles of Circular Economy.
The consortium includes public institutions with experience in land management, such as the Natural Heritage Foundation of the Castilla y León Regional Government (Fundación Patrimonio Natural de la Junta de Castilla y León), which will coordinate the initiative in Spain and Guimarães (in Portugal), as well as the Diputación de Ávila and the Instituto Orensano de Desarrollo Económico (INORDE).
Actions will be carried out in three areas of cooperation -Galicia, Northern Portugal and Castilla y Leon-, taking advantage of the diversity of the region and the geographical proximity to exchange cross-border experiences.
This initiative reinforces the role and commitment of Valladolid in its shared work with Portugal, which has been developed in projects such as Circular Labs, Cencyl Verde or INDNATUR.
